Dr. Greg Mahoney
BDSc, PhD, MSc(Dent), GradDipClinDent, FADI, FPFA.
Greg graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Queensland in 1978. And has been a registered private dental practitioner since that time. Greg also has a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Pain Control and Sedation) from the University of Sydney in 1997; a Master of Science (Dentistry) from the University of Sydney in 2001; a PhD from the University of Queensland (2010) in Oral Public Health and finally, fellowships from the Academy of Dentistry International and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
He was a member of the Dental Board of Australia’s Committee on Sedation (2010-2020); member of the special purpose committee on sedation for the Australian Dental Association, and panelled member of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (2010-2020). Greg was the president of the Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology (2009-2021) and the Australasian Military Medicine Association (2009-2019).
As a Group Captain in the AirForce Specialist Reserve he held various positions including Director of Specialist Health Services and Director of Queensland Health Reserves. He presents courses and workshops for the Australian Dental Association and the dental industry on Local Anaesthetics, sedation (intravenous and inhalation) and medical emergencies.
Furthermore, He is a key opinion leader for Septodont (the largest manufacturer of local anaesthetics) lecturing in Australia, South East Asia, and Europe on the Local Anaesthetic including Local Anaesthetic Systemic Toxicity (LAST).
Post Graduate Qualifications
- Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (USyd) – Awarded the ASDA prize for the highest pass
- Masters of Science in Dentistry (USyd)
- PhD (UQ) – Dr Mahoney’s thesis found that a predictive model was possible in determining which patients were likely to have trouble in the period between dental examinations.
- Awarded fellowships with the Academy of Dentistry International and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
